[Member Spotlight] Cathy Skinner
Cathy Skinner, the Founder and CEO of Thrivors, began providing exercise and wellness training for cancer survivors in 2008. As a certified ACSM Cancer Exercise Specialist and author of The Art of Well’s Exercise for Cancer Recovery™, she teaches classes and speaks at support groups and conferences about the value of exercise for cancer recovery.
Currently, only 63% of cancer survivors live beyond 5 years post-diagnosis. With the number of cancer survivors projected to be 18 million in 2020, there is an unmet need to greatly improve survivorship. Research shows that physical activity can reduce relapse of disease by up to 50%, thereby saving about $100K per patient annually.
Thrivors is a population health management tool that offers a mobile-technology platform for cancer-specific exercise, nutrition, mindfulness, and community that empowers survivors to own their recovery. They are about to launch their fourth pilot with Gilda’s Club Twin Cities.
Cathy is looking for strategic partners who have a complimentary vision to serve the cancer survivor community with patient-centered, meaningful use programs and tools. She is also looking to connect with experienced entrepreneurs who have successfully scaled their startups.
Cathy is very connected in the cancer support and healthcare spaces in Minnesota, and is more than willing to help navigate them. She is also passionate about supporting aspiring entrepreneurs and female leaders in healthcare.
